I’m sick to death of titles like this one that appeared on encToday.com : “Schools win-Taxpayers lose.” The headline implies that taxpayers, i.e. the citizens of North Carolina, are in some type of competition with schools. In reality, public schools serve the citizens of this state. Schools are an important part of the state’s infrastructure and one of the reasons our economy is growing. Supporting education with tax dollars is a good investment not a losing proposition for any taxpayer. If you don’t believe me, imagine for a moment what things would be like in our state if the title read this way: “Taxpayers win-Schools lose.” I don’t think many of us would call that a victory.

More evidence of the insidious cancer spawned by the John Locke Puppetshow. Of course, encToday is a full-fledged member of the Show, which means I probably need to update my map again.
Nice pick-up. It really underscores the importance of framing the debate in your terms. For cruel efficiency, I just don’t think you can top “Death Tax!” As the citizenry becomes more poorly informed by the day, headlines and soundbites may be all they remember as they step inside a voting booth.
