I too was wondering why the partisanship in the hearing. At first I just assumed that it was the fact that Waxman called for the hearing and he is a Democrat, so the knee jerk reflex for the Republicans would be to stonewall and sandbag, turning the hearing into a farce. Bingo … success!

But I sent it up to the booth and upon further review, not only is Clemens from Texas but he is also good buddies with Papa Bush. Suddenly, those ‘what the hell is he doing’ visits to committee members in the days immediately preceding the hearing makes perfect sense. “By the way Mr./Ms. Committee Member, I had a call from former President Bush wishing me well in the hearing.”

A cue like that would be all that Bush puppet Granny Foxx would need to get rolling. First blast the whole idea of the hearing when she and her fellow lawmakers should be doing their real job: oversight. Well excuse me but where has the ‘oversight’ been for the last seven years? Katrina rebuilding? FEMA? Non-competitive bid contracts for anything and everything in Iraq?

Then the picutres. Apparently, she misses the whole concept of natural aging and what is expected of the human body. If, as she said, there is no difference between Roger at 25 and Roger at 45 … well isn’t that the whole point? And then the rock star treatment of Clemens after the hearing was over. I was reminded of one of the State of the Union addresses in the past, where she acted like a 12 year old at a Hannah Montana concert, dreamily gazing a W and thrusting a pen a paper at him for an autograph.

Very sad.

Actually, Clemens’ physique HAS changed over the years, as one might expect from someone moving from 24 years old in ’85 to 45 years in ’07. There’s no point at all, though, in showing 4 pictures of different viewpoints, different angles. You can see changes clearly in pictures that are fairly close in viewpoint and angle, though.

It’s his HEAD size that’s changed pretty markedly since the first of the suspect years.

How did she get that poster? I think the Clemens Team came prepared — Roger himself probably gave it to her. With a promise to whip out his Sharpie and autograph it for her after the hearing. It’d be a bit too much of a giveaway if his autograph was already on each picture when she held it up for all to see….

She should retire from congress and join Clemens defense team. NC lawmakers continue to make our state look foolish. Can’t we send someone with merit to represent us, just once? I guess those types don’t run in the first place.

A total waste of money!

What happened to the economy, Iraq, trade agreements, health care, impeachment proceedings against this crooked president?

I’m still trying to reconcile all this with the way the drug scandal at the Tour was handled last year. Is it just because cycling is such a less high profile sport – despite Lance Armstrong – that it didn’t become such a hot-button political issue?

Isn’t the fact that he hasn’t changed physically the point? I mean, the guy is the same size now at 46 that he was in his 20s. An intense workout regimen will keep you in shape through the years, but without any artificial assistance (i.e. performance enhancing drugs), you’re still going to lose some muscle mass and your physique will reflect that. In the case of both Clemens and Barry Bonds, that didn’t happen–that’s what makes them look suspicious.

And, yes, the posters are a waste of money, but then again…so was the hearing.

Never misunderestimate the Republicans need for a big strong man to protect them from evil.

I suspect this is breaking down along party lines because Clemens is from Texas. Nothing good has come from Texas since Molly Ivins died.

Leave it to Ms. Foxx to revert to the Scientific method!

If she thought this was a waste of time, why did she spend our tax money to print these huge poster size pics from different angles (which proves nothing) to prove her moot point.

And why did she take so long, this just took more time/money?

That poster is almost as big and colorful as her congressional mailers, another waste of money to the tune of over $165,000 last year.

My only question concerns the guy holding up the poster – he looks a little shady.

And I really don’t understand how this became a partisan issue anyway – I thought conservatives were against cheating with drugs too.
