N.C. delegation mostly against the bailout

Here's how they voted:

Aye: Etheridge, Miller, Price, Watt

No: Butterfield, Coble, Foxx, Hayes, Jones, McIntyre, McHenry, Myrick, Shuler

Reports indicate that there could be another vote later. What a mess!

I am disappointed in Brad Miller and David Price for supporting the first bailout. They, and others, didnot “Help the little guy first”.

Professor Andrew Foster’s opinion article on 09/25/08 in the N & O made a lot of sense to me. Someone on the staffs of the two congressmen mentioned above should have brought the opinion to their attentions. Using taxpayer dollars to bail out fat cats is an abomination. The only capitalist in the system is the American worker. He and she provide socialist health care benefits to the congress, lucrative pension plans to the same, and bailout the free market wealthy with tax dollars. What a system!

While I share the general sense of frustration that many feel regarding the various plans that have been floated, I will say this in defense of those who voted “yes”: Getting legislation through the Congress is a tough darned thing. I tend to agree with those who argue that the potential adverse effects of doing nothing have been overstated — but that’s easy for me (us) to say when we’re not the ones casting a vote.

If I were sitting in the Capitol and had several credible people tell me that this was the only way we can avoid a national financial system meltdown, I would find it very hard to brush that aside and vote “no” just because the package was badly flawed or that a lot of my constituents were angry.
