Lobbying Lanier

Post on January 6, 2009 by 11 Comments »

OK – I’m going to go out on a limb here. Can former state representative (and former Deputy DHHS Secretary) Lanier Cansler really be considered in the running for state DHHS Secretary when he’s a registered lobbyist for Computer Sciences Corporation, the company that just won a $265 million contract with DHHS in a contentious bid process?

I actually don’t think Cansler would be that bad as DHHS Sec – I just think this relationship raises some serious questions that need to be addressed.

I ask the question “Whom do you suggest?” not to put you on the spot but to get some ideas. I’ve been racking my brain thinking of potential HHS Secs. of progressive bent and solid history in this area, and I’m fresh out. Odd that the great mentioner hasn’t mentioned many good names.

sorry, I dont believe lawyers are qualified to run a health agency. Better a person with some hands on experience like a doctor or a nurse.

Interesting quote from Mr. Cansler (REPUBLICAN) from the May 2005 Socializedd Medicine Blog:

“Lanier Cansler, a Republican who recently stepped down as the No. 2 official in the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, said, “Everyone is beginning to understand that Medicaid isn’t going to be sustained as it is.” …”

It’s a sad day when someone being “not that bad” is the best we can get in such a critical office.

    I’m disgusted.
