Here are the legislative priorities of the UNC system. It’s a pretty modest list compared to past years.

UNC Health Care wants more flexibility with its investments.

And it looks like Erskine Bowles will make a major push this year to get more control over the university HR system. When he first assumed the presidency he wanted to take the HR system for university employees away from the state and allow the UNC system complete control. Workers strongly objected to the move, so now Bowles is shooting for smaller changes. Most employees suspect that he wants the university to operate more like a business that can hire and fire at will instead of a state agency with strong worker protections.
