We are a democracy and North Carolina's government is made up of people who we voted for and who, presumably, will look after our interests. That the people are in charge is why NC's budget goes to services and programs for the people who are paying the taxes that fund government - schools and roads, law enforcement, libraries, universities and community colleges, and, of course, health care.

We create and fund government to work for us - and that shouldn't change in hard times. In fact, government should be working harder than ever to help families in any way possible through the hard times that face us all. Government isn't a "business that needs to tighten its belt" - it's us and our collective will to work together to solve the problems that face us as a state and as a nation.

Adam, again I have to agree with you and thank you for standing up for families. I hope that our elected leaders are listening to you before they make any cuts. I am very disheartened by the proposed cuts and scared for all families. Especially for mine because I have four children with special health care needs, three of them with Cystic Fibrosis, and we have already made too many lasting sacrifices to obtain and maintain qualification for Medicaid for them. We need to remind our elected leaders that behind every statistic is a human life that will be drastically and negatively affected by their decisions to cut public health programs.
