Cuz That’s What Really Matters

Andrew CardIf you’re not an avid viewer of Inside Edition, you may have missed yesterday’s big news. I know I did, but the invaluable Huffington Post – it’s sort of the grease trap of the news world – caught it for me. It seems that Andrew Card, Pres. Bush’s Chief of Staff, is not impressed with how casually Pres. Obama dresses when he’s at work in the Oval Office. Yeah, you read that right, someone from the Bush administration is knocking the new POTUS’s level of respect not just for the physical office, but for democracy itself.

‘The Oval Office symbolizes…the Constitution, the hopes and dreams, and I’m going to say democracy. And when you have a dress code in the Supreme Court and a dress code on the floor of the Senate, floor of the House, I think it’s appropriate to have an expectation that there will be a dress code that respects the office of the President.’”

So even though those people wiped their damn asses with the Constitution, they did it in coat and tie. And that’s what’s really important. Personally, I’ll take shirt sleeves if it means I get to hear the sweet, sweet music of a president saying, “I screwed up.” Or even, “Washington may not be ready to get serious about energy independence, but I am. And so are you. And so are the American people.” If this is what we get when people take their jackets off, we could’ve stormed that place several years ago and confiscated all the Loro Piana we could get our casual little hands on.
