North Carolina needs to take advantage of the generous federal match in the State Children’s Health Insurance Program by covering all kids.
Finding state funds to pay our share of the program will not be easy. But for every state dollar we decline to spend on children’s health, we refuse three dollars in federal funds. We can’t afford to turn down hundreds of millions of dollars in federal money during this recession.
More parents are losing insurance coverage every day, which means more uninsured children. And while we can outsource pieces of the health care industry, a vast majority of medical spending will remain in the state and will help boost local economies around North Carolina.
