The latest report from The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities says that almost 900,000 children in North Carolina will benefit from the temporary increase in the child tax credit in the federal stimulus package.

Nationally, almost 3 million new kids will receive the credit and another 10 million will get a bigger credit than the 2008 rules allowed. The Center says that will help families and the economy.

By targeting more stimulus money to low-income families that are likely to spend it, the expanded child credit helps to advance the recovery package’s fundamental goal – providing effective economic stimulus.  Roughly 90 percent of the benefits of this provision will go to the bottom fifth of Americans.

Funny how that’s left out of the talking points of the most vocal opponents of the plan.

Of course it’s left out. The vocal opponents could hardly care less about the bottom fifth of Americans. Helping them through government assistance (paid for by THEIR money) is wrong. And as to helping the economy, we’ve already seen their approach. Sadly, their approach is being aided and abetted by plenty of so-called Democrats.
