Top of the morning

Post on March 12, 2009 by 1 Comment »

Most of the stories about the recent Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington have focused on the predictably obnoxious comments by Rush Limbaugh in his apparently successful attempt to take over as the real head of the Republican Party.

All but lost in the rush to cover Rush were astounding comments at the conference by Wayne LaPierre, the CEO of the National Rifle Association.

LaPierre told the crowd that “the guys with the guns make the rules.”

That sounds more like the Wild West than a civilized democracy. The comments are especially eeire as mass shootings at schools, churches and worksites dominate the news.

I wonder if Mr LaPierre has anything brilliant things to say about the tragedy in Alabama. As insistent as they are about separation of church and state, he and other gun-rights conservatives are more consistent when it comes to separation of compassion and state.

And speaking of political commentary, are there any locally-oriented, non-boring progressive talk shows in North Carolina?
