As a separate post I wanted to note that for the past six months the State Health Plan has delayed administrative payments to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, which is part of the reason for the rush in the General Assembly to pass State Health Plan reforms. In May and June the state will have to repay the cash plus interest. The amount could total more than $40 million.
We hear a great deal about how the State Health Plan will have to stop paying providers at the end of March if legislators do not pass a bill. But I suspect that the larger concern is the state’s big Blue Cross loan.
