Maybe this will finally settle it

CEOs across the country say North Carolina has the second best business climate in the nation, according to a survey by Chief Executive Magazine.

WRAL’s LocalTechWire.com has the details of the poll, which is based on the workforce, the quality of life, and taxes and regulation in every state. That’s right, taxes and regulation.

Corporate executives say that North Carolina business taxes are not out of line with other states.

Now if we can just get that message to the state chamber and the corporate lobbyists patrolling the halls of the General Assembly, we’ll finally end this argument once and for all.

So much for the claims of the market fundamentalists who tell us every day that our tax system is strangling economic development.

Let’s see, who should we believe about what North Carolina is like for businesses, ideologues at anti-government think tanks or the CEOs who run manage corporations every day? Hmmm.

    Have you not noticed that the economy is being strangled in vitually every state in the union? To suggest that our taxes and regulations aren’t as punitive as other states is justification for making our taxes and regulation more punitive is insanity.

    Not to mention that if NC looses its right to work status, our ranking as a desirable place to conduct business will plumet.

    There is an interestig contrast between the states preferred b y CEOs and the states with the highest quality of life for their citizens.

    The Top 5 states for business have an average Quality of Life Ranking of 34.

    The Worst 5 states for business have an average Quality of Life Ranking of 9.

    Question arises: whom does the government and the economy consider a higher priority? Is it benefitting businesses or benefitting citizens?
