As Adam Searing noted in his post on Kay Hagan, we need the $634 billion in the President’s budget to start expanding coverage and checking the long term rise in health costs. It’s true that Obama is asking Congress for a massive infusion of funds. It’s also true that without that money health reform will stall this year.
Even though she publicly expressed concerns about spending, Sen. Hagan ultimately voted for the budget. But not North Carolina Rep. Mike McIntyre. McIntyre was one of only 20 House Democrats to oppose the President’s budget. Even Heath Shuler voted for the budget despite opposing the stimulus package.
I hope that McIntyre will realize that beach renourishment is not the only pressing issue facing the nation, especially since he represents a district that includes some of the highest uninsured rates in the state.
