Top of the morning

The claims about taxes and government by the folks on the right holding anti-tax protests tomorrow are ridiculous enough. Then there is assertion that it’s an organic, national grassroots movement by real citizens upset about taxes.

There’s evidence all over the country that it is actually a well-funded, carefully orchestrated media event run by the big-money folks on the Right, the same ones who bankroll the anti-government foundations in Washington and Raleigh and state capitals across the country.

Most ridiculous of all are the complaints about the “liberal media” not publicizing their parties.  The Lockerheads today quote Melodye Aben,  the coordinator of the Raleigh protest.

Aben said that news of the tea parties has spread mostly through word-of-mouth and that few media outlets have picked up the story, but that hasn’t stopped residents from coming out to have their voices heard.

Ms. Aben, meet Google news. Just in the last few days stories promoting the ridiculous rallies in North Carolina have appeared in the News & Observer, Jacksonville Daily News, Morganton News Herald, High Point Enterprise, WECT-TV in Wilmington, Richmond County Daily Journal, Hickory Daily Record, New Bern Sun-Journal, Fayetteville Observer, and many more media outlets.

One national search with Google news found a USA today story Monday and 266 similar stories the same day.  That is one serious news blackout.

The real issue isn’t lack of coverge, it is why the media are promoting the events so fawningly and uncritically presenting the carefully crafted talking points. How about a little reality with that tea?
