Top of the morning

Posted at 7:54 AM by Chris Fitzsimon

Reading all the mostly fawning coverage about Wednesday’s “tea parties” across the country, it’s almost impossible to keep up with all the wackiness.

The Elizabeth City Daily Advance quotes one partier saying “they’re taxing us without representation.” Maybe he lives in the District of Columbia and had driven down to Elizabeth City to hold a sign.

The Winston-Salem Journal cites comments by the always reasonable Jeff Mixon of the Pope Civitas Institute. Mixon quoted Lenin and said the U.S. could be headed toward communism. And you thought red-baiting was so 1980s.

At an event sponsored by a group associated with Fox talk show host Glen Beck, one speaker said that the Obama Administration is the culmination of the infiltration by the communists in the 1950s and that the digital cable television converters being distributed are brainwashing units.

Quite a day. Next thing you know a U.S. Senator will tell his wife to go to the ATM machine and take all their money out. Oh wait.
