Top of the morning

Texas Governor Rick Perry is back in the headlines, this time for packing the boards that oversee the state’s public university system with political donors.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Perry has received close to $5 million from people he has appointed to state boards and commissions. More than $800,000 came from Perry’s picks for boards of regents of the state’s public universities.

That raises at least two questions. How much are the members of boards of trustees at UNC campuses ponying up for politicians in North Carolina?

And how long before a university study is released in Texas making the case for secession?
