[1]With little attention and no debate, Senator Josh Stein’s innovative bill [2]to set up a comparative effectiveness task force passed the NC Senate yesterday. This is the idea for a collaboration of all the research and policy health care organizations to collect, do research, and publish information about what drugs, devices, and procedures are effective – and which ones don’t work. Estimates are that we spend about one-third of our health care dollars on treatments that aren’t effective. Stein’s bill can set up the framework to begin to change that and start us down the road to saving real money in health care.
