Top of the morning
The high-quality, informative policy debates continue on cable news shows, this time about Sonia Sotomayor, President Obama’s pick for the Supreme Court.
Former Congressman Tom Tancredo appeared on CNN Thursday to complain about Sotomayor’s membership in La Raza, a widely respected Latino civil rights and advocacy group whose board chair is Andrea Bazan, who runs the Triangle Community Foundation in North Carolina.
Tancredo called La Raza a “Latino KKK” and distorted the translation of the group’s name. Talking Points Memo has the details of Tancredo’s appearance and also quotes Bill Gheen of the Raleigh-based and misleadingly-named Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, who refers to Sotomayor as an “Hispanic supremacist.”
Why does CNN feel the need to put these guys on television?
