The push to convince state lawmakers not to address the state’s $4.6 billion shortfall next year with budget cuts alone is picking up steam.
A town hall meeting sponsored by Together NC Wednesday night in Durham featured statements from people with a lot at stake in the budget decisions made by the General Assembly.
Several of the speakers were parents of children with disabilities who came to talk about the vital services they will lose if lawmakers decide not to raise revenue and simply slash human services programs to balance the budget.
Rep. Paul Luebke said that the town hall meetings and the reaction from across the state to proposed budget cuts are making a difference.
Because of events like this and events that have been happening around the state, and generally just a barrage of emails that have been coming in to members of the GA, there is a growing consensus now that revenue must be raised. This was really not the case even 10 days ago.
