WaPo – Public Option Health Care Nixed in Senate Finance?

The Post is reporting this morning that the latest draft from the Senate Finance Committee on health care reform apparently nixes the public plan option in an effort to trim costs. Senate Finance may have press conference later today – stay tuned.

    Congressman John Conyers’ HR 676, “United States National Health Care Act or the Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act,” includes the following language:

    “No institution may be a participating provider unless it is a public or not-for-profit institution. Private physicians, private clinics, and private health care providers shall continue to operate as private entities, but are prohibited from being investor owned… For-profit providers of care opting to participate shall be required to convert to not-for-profit status.”
