Don’t worry about being confused about Senate Minority Leader Phil Berger’s position on the $25 million pier under construction in Nags Head. It is hard to keep up.
Berger and other Republicans point to the pier as an example of the misplaced priorities of legislative Democrats.
Berger has singled out the pier as one thing that should be cut before any taxes are raised to address the state budget shortfall. But Berger and every other Republican Senator voted for the legislation that authorized the pier on the Senate floor April 14th.
Now Berger says voting for the pier was a mistake, telling WRAL-TV,
A lot of things that may have looked like a good thing a month ago, two months ago or a year ago, may not be such a good idea now.
Berger voted for the pier just over two months ago, when the budget shortfall was already forecast to top $2 billion and a week after the Senate passed a budget that included a tax increase of $500 million.
Does that mean that Berger thought then the pier was a good idea, important enough to justify raising taxes and cutting education?
Or was he just for it before he was against it?

Meanwhile all the Democrats that continue to insist this is a great use of taxpayer money get a pass?
How do you spell Democrat Schill? C-H-R-I-S F-I-T-Z-S-I-M-O-N-S
It is actually refreshing to see a legislator admit he did something wrong and wants to fix it.
Who is Chris Fitzsimons?
More importantly, what is a “Schill”?
I think “schill” is the German spelling.
