Top of the morning

Here’s part of a response from a member of Congress from North Carolina to a constituent asking for support of the federal Dream Act, a bipartisan proposal to allow undocumented students pay in-state tuition at public universities. Nine states, including Texas already allow kids the chance to continue their education.

North Carolina does not. The member of Congress writes that they do not support the bill because

I oppose amnesty, and I strongly believe the United States must take the necessary steps to fix the way we handle the entire issue of illegal immigration. I am committed to achieving practical, bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform which will protect taxpayers and address the problem of illegal immigration at its core.

We must strengthen our borders, crack down on employers who knowingly hire illegal workers and shut down the underground economy. With our economy in peril, it is more important than ever to ensure that we are protecting the jobs, wages and working conditions of American workers.

That response denying a higher education to kids brought here by their parents came from—-Senator Kay Hagan.

Jon, that’s because he writes without thinking.

The fact that Siberian Caviar can be purchased from Dean & DeLuca for $125 an ounce is not proof that people don’t go hungry.

“strengthening our borders” i.e. wasting money and “cracking down on employers” i.e. slowing our economy down will not help the U.S. in any way. The DREAM Act would actually create some positive change by boosting our economy since we’ll be able to tap into a more educated workforce and use this multi-lingual and multi-talented youth.
