Today’s “must Reid”

[1]Last year, long-time overseas journalist T.R. Reid put together an excellent TV show on PBS about health care around the world. You can still watch it online and read excerpts and explanations here [2]. Today in the Washington Post, one can read an engaging essay [3] entitled “5 Myths About Health Care Around the World” in which Reid synthesizes much of what he made so clear and understandable in that show.

Here are five myths he exposes as demonstrably false:

1. It’s all socialized medicine out there.

2. Overseas, care is rationed through limited choices or long lines.

3. Foreign health-care systems are inefficient, bloated bureaucracies.

4. Cost controls stifle innovation.

5. Health insurance has to be cruel.

Urge your friends – especially those people who still continue to harbor concerns about the modest reform proposals under consideration in Washington – to read it.
