Top of the morning

[1]

If you are wondering about the letter from the late Senator Ted Kennedy that President Obama quoted from in his speech last night, Talking Points Memo [2] has the text.  Here’s one paragraph.

There will be struggles – there always have been – and they are already underway again. But as we moved forward in these months, I learned that you will not yield to calls to retreat – that you will stay with the cause until it is won. I saw your conviction that the time is now and witnessed your unwavering commitment and understanding that health care is a decisive issue for our future prosperity. But you have also reminded all of us that it concerns more than material things; that what we face is above all a moral issue; that at stake are not just the details of policy, but fundamental principles of social justice and the character of our country.

Oh, and in case you missed it, a Washington Post story [3] about the Republicans’ reactions to the speech, including Rep. Joe Wilson from South Carolina shouting “lie” at Obama, reports that North Carolina Congressman Patrick McHenry “left a little early to beat the rush.” More important things to do apparently than listen to the President talk about the most important issue in millions of peoples’ lives.
