Lots of private nonprofit organizations are small employers – yet they won’t qualify for the current tax credits for providing health benefits that other small businesses will qualify for under health reform legislation. Think Smart Start daycare centers, local prescription drug assistance organizations for the elderly and small community health clinics. This really makes no sense and needs to be fixed – immediately. Nonprofits provide a vast array of services to thousands of people and experience the same problems affording health coverage as other small businesses.
