Burr celebrates grant he opposed
The Hill newspaper in Washington reports that Democrats plan to attack Senator Richard Burr for his apparent hypocrisy on the federal stimulus package.
Burr appeared in Bethlehem in Alexander County last week to present a $2 million check from the federal government to the local fire department to build a new station. The money came from the federal stimulus package that Burr voted against.
Friday’s story in the local paper, the Hickory Daily Record, mentioned that the grant came from the stimulus package, but not that Burr opposed it.
The Roll Call quotes a spokesman in Burr’s office saying that the senator was happy to be there to recognize the town’s work in getting the highly competitive grant.
That would be the grant that would not have been available if Burr had gotten his way on the stimulus package.
Sounds like he was against it before he was for it.
