Duke doctor – support for mammogram screening change

Dr. Amy Abernethy, a respected oncologist at Duke University Medical Center, writes a great op-ed [1] today in the News and Observer about the change in recommended routine mammogram screening for women under 50. Her most interesting point is not only that we should acknowledge the lack of evidence supporting routine mammograms for women under 50 but that we need to do a better job building the doctor patient relationship to address all the preventive measures we can take to reduce the risk of cancer so treatment isn’t even necessary.
