Forbes [1] has  the details of a new study by the United Health Foundation ranking the states on the health of their populations. Vermont tops the list.

Eight of the ten lowest-ranking states are in the South. North Carolina comes in at 37.

Crooks and Liars [2] points out another pattern in the rankings. Red States have the unhealthiest residents and have the worst health care.  And of course most are represented in Congress by politicians opposing President Obama’s health care reform plan. Crooks and Liars uses Kentucky as an example.

…no amount of data will stop Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell warning of a “government-run” plan that “that denies, delays, or rations health care.” After all, with his home state’s 41st and 45th place rankings in resident health and health care performance, McConnell’s nightmare future is Kentucky’s horror story present.
