Justice Center releases economic and social fact sheets on North Carolina’s counties

County-specific data on unemployment, poverty, wages and income, income inequality, health care, food stamps and the Living Income Standard is now available to media members, legislators and the public

RALEIGH (Nov. 24, 2009) - The NC Justice Center released fact sheets about vital economic and social indicators in North Carolina and its counties this morning.

The fact sheets track statewide and county-specific data on unemployment, poverty, wages and income, income inequality, health care, food stamps and the Living Income Standard.

“The fact sheets are a way for policy-makers, advocates and media members to track important indicators of community well-being,” said Meg Gray, a policy analyst with the NC Justice Center’s Budget & Tax Center, who prepared the fact sheets.

Due to data limitations, only counties with populations of 20,000 or more are included. Counties with populations of 65,000 or more use the 2008 American Community Survey as a primary data source. Counties with populations between 20,000 and 65,000 use the 2006-2008 three year averages from the American Community Survey.
