Here are a couple of things about the Secret Service that you might have missed in all the furor about the gate-crashers at a recent White House event.

They come from of all places a online chat between readers of the Washington Post and Newsmax.com’s Washington Bureau Chief Ronald Kessler, who has written about a book about the Secret Service.

Kessler blames some of the problems on the failure of Secret Service officials to request adequate funding from Congress.

It has not requested the necessary funding and personnel to keep up with the increasing protective responsibilities it assumes and the threats against President Obama which have increased by as much as 400% compared with when President Bush was in office.

Wonder if all the comparisons of Obama to Hitler have anything to do with that?

Kessler also points out another budget problem that might surprise all the folks claiming that Democrats are wasting taxpayer money.

the Secret Service has been bowing to pressure by some protectees such as Mary Cheney, Dick Cheney’s daughter, who insisted that agents take her friends to restaurants. That is not the job of the Secret Service, and when agents refused she got her detail leader removed by Secret Service management.

Newsmax.com is one of the most conservative media outlets around so the folks on the Right can’t chalk this up to liberal bias.

Wonder if taxpayer-funded rides to restaurants for friends of Dick Cheney’s daughter will come up at the next Tea Party?
