On Danger, secrets, and special interest groups

Posted at 7:04 PM by Clayton Henkel

We learned Wednesday that former Governor Mike Easley used a secret e-mail account to conduct state business. According to Easley’s then communications director, the former governor’s email handle was “Nick Danger” spelled backwards.

It’s unclear what was in those emails, but by law, e-mails about public business are supposed to be public record.

On this weekend’s radio show, state Rep. Rick Glazier says to address the public’s cynicism and distrust of  government and its elected leaders, the legislature must do more to improve disclosure and transparency.

Glazier also shares his thoughts about how North Carolina and other states should respond to the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that effectively unleashes special-interest dollars on future elections.
