Here’s a story worth noting from the Morganton News-Herald.

Two Burke County fire departments will receive $90,236 in grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Congressman Patrick McHenry announced Wednesday

How nice of Congressman McHenry to announce that his district is receiving money from the federal goverment he says is bloated and a budget he says is full of local earmarks.

    Mr. Fitzsimon,

Is it the earmark, or for whom the earmark is intended that you have a problem with? Or is it because it is heading to one of the more Republican congressional districts in the nation that puts a burr under your saddle?

Rep. McHenry is a politician and yet you expect him to act otherwise, just as Reps. Watt and Coble and Schuler. I am sure that each and every one of our NC delegation to the US Congress has his or her hand out for federal reserve notes to stuff ballot boxes this fall.

How about we the next time we hear any politician crying for our money because it serves the public interest we use this formula as a guide to outrage or compliance:

Public Interest = Favored Special Interest, unless it serves each and every citizen alike. If it does not, then it is not “Public” and therefore should not be funded by the public.

If we do this – earmarks and porkbarrel spending would cease to exist.
