Overwhelming majority of governors support key state fiscal relief program
With the near-ubiquity of state budget crisis, infusing capital into hurting states is essential for economic recovery. There are several small, important steps Congress can take toward creating jobs and speeding economic health.
One such step is backed by nearly every American governor, Republican or Democrat.
A bipartisan letter signed by 43 such governors — including our own Beverly Perdue, plus the governors of Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands and the Northern Mariana) — was sent to the House and Senate leadership this Sunday. It urges them to extend the enhanced Federal Medical Assistance Percentages from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act for two further quarters.
Efforts like this help North Carolina support healthier citizens, ease the pain of our budget nightmare, and preserve jobs that might otherwise be lost. This is worth doing.
But don’t take my word for it: ask 43 American governors. Here is a PDF of the letter.
