Here is the question to ponder this almost-spring Wednesday morning. It comes from the N&O editorial about the news that Republican Attorney Thomas Farr, hired by the Wake County School Board, is charging taxpayers $250 an hour to to write emails asking for information that is available on the school system’s public website.
The new Gang of Five majority on the school board said they hired Farr to do an audit of the system’s legal expenses and to provide other legal advice, even though the board already has an attorney.
The editorial, appropriately headlined “Farr, ranging,” asks the question that Chair Ron Margiotta ought to answer.
Also interesting is the range of Farr’s task. How did it go from reviewing legal arrangements to what appears now to be an overview of the entire workings of the school system? The board’s majority owes the taxpayers an explanation for that.
How indeed?
