Mejia: Rethinking those perks and incentives

As the Budget Reform and Accountability Commission continues to pore over hundreds of ideas to locate waste and inefficiency in state government, the director of the NC Budget & Tax Center offers a few ideas of her own.

Elaine Mejia says the panel organized by Gov. Beverly Perdue should take a closer look at the tax breaks and deductions given to businesses to grow jobs.

Mejia says with the budgetary challenges that loom in the upcoming legislative session, the General Assembly would be better off using that money to preserve vital programs in education and health and human services that help everyday North Carolinians.
