Etheridge: We can’t leave states, citizens hanging
Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-NC) says when Congress reconvenes next week the House of Representatives will revisit COBRA subsidies and aid to state governments.
Both provisions were cut from a jobs bill that passed the House before the Memorial Day recess amid concerns about the ballooning deficit.
Etheridge, who serves on the powerful House Committee on Ways and Means, tells NC Policy Watch that states need extra Medicaid money and laid-off workers clearly need help in affording health insurance. The 2nd District Congressman also wants Congress to do more to protect the jobs of classroom teachers.
