TGIF lunch links – Part I
A lot of folks may be on vacation at this time of year, but the progressive advocacy calendar is still hopping.
Next Tuesday the 20th there will be a march in downtown Raleigh to defend high-quality, diverse schools in Wake County. Supporters of the diversity policy will gather July 20 at 10 a.m. They will march from the Raleigh Convention Center to the State Capitol. Marchers will represent more than two dozen concerned groups of local parents, state religious organizations and nonprofits including the NC NAACP.
The week after that, NC Policy Watch will team up with Action for Children North Carolina to host a Crucial Conversation luncheon on the state of Latino children in North Carolina. The event will take place at noon on July 29 at Campbell University School of Law in Raleigh. Click here to register.
Later that same day, the folks at Great Schools in Wake will celebrate the 50th anniversary of “To Kill a Mockingbird” with a commemorative showing of the Gregory Peck film version.
And things appear to be hopping (or at least shaking) in the nation’s capital too. A brief 3.6 magnitude earthquake hit the Washington, D.C. area Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Could it be the impact of Wall Street reform is already shaking things up?
Meanwhile, speaking of financial reform, Chris Kukla with the Center for Responsible Lending joins Chris Fitzsimon in the studio this weekend on “News & Views” to explain what this new legislation will mean for consumers.
