As political campaigns heat up, one sometimes hears cries of “repeal the health care law.” Unfortunately, political Solons talking about repeal omit a very pertinent fact. According to the Congressional Budget Office (and yes, Congress is required to rely on their estimates regardless of what political party is doing the asking) repeal of the health law would cost $143 billion dollars . Just repealing the provisions dealing with Medicare would cost $455 billion. So, next time someone starts going on about “repealing” the health care law, ask them how they plan to come up with the $143 billion to pay for it. Then of course ask them what provisions they specifically would like to repeal. You won’t get a straight answer on either question.
