When we compiled data for our report on the N.C. Education Lottery and the connection between sales and poverty, data for four counties – Macon, Madison, Martin and McDowell – were transposed. The mistake was caught thanks to catch from a quick reporter at the Franklin Press in Macon County.
With apologies to residents of those four counties, we’ve adjusted our interactive map. Madison County still has the lowest per capita sales in that state, but at $41.48 for each adult opposed to the $25. 41 we initially reported.
Here’s the corrected information:
Macon, $88.47 (13.8 % poverty rate)
Madison, $41.48 (17.7 % poverty)
Martin, $371.32, (23.4 % poverty)
McDowell, $165.74 (14.6 % poverty)
