Top of the morning

Inside Higher Education has an interesting story this morning about a special legislative training held in Pinehurst recently by Hunt Institute for Educational Leadership and Policy.

It’s designed to let lawmakers hear about the challenges facing education in the state, this year focusing on the university system which faces massive reductions as Republicans have pledged to address the state’s $3.7 billion shortfall with budget cuts alone.

Good for Jim Hunt. Now let’s hope the new legislative leadership is listening and takes an honest look at what damage the cuts will do and realizes that protecting the state’s future is more important than their political rhetoric.
