The passing of a great advocate

North Carolinians who care about justice and equality lost a great friend this week with the passing of former state legislator and long-time activist and advocate, Ruth Cook. Though Cook’s term in the General Assembly occurred in the 1970′s and 80′s, her service to the state of North Carolina as an advocate for progressive change stretched throughout most of the last half-century.
One person who knew her well, Justice Center General Counsel Bill Rowe, describes her work in the late 60′s and early 70′s for the State Council for Social legislation as “a one-woman North Carolina Justice Center.”
Please take a moment today to check out Ruth’s obituary in Raleigh’s News & Observer .
Her funeral will take place at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow at Temple Beth Or in Raleigh.
