Hackney: North Carolina is not broke, “we have choices” (audio)
House budget-writers will wait until next week to roll out their spending reduction options.
Many had hoped to get a glimpse this week of where Republicans intend to cut $2.4 billion to balance the budget, after House Speaker Thom Tillis said Tuesday the appropriations subcommittees were done collecting data and were ready to start making decisions.
This weekend on News & Views, House Minority Leader Rep. Joe Hackney joins Chris Fitzsimon to discuss the budget process.
He notes that tough choices made last session will help North Carolina end this year in the black. Hackney also believes that the new leadership could avoid radical budget cuts, if they choose to extend the temporary tax increases that are set to expire June 30th.
