New Report: NC to lose $83 billion in federal health care funding under new GOP Ryan budget plan

Families USA has just released a new report that details, state by state, the result of the massive cuts being proposed in Washington to Medicaid, Medicare, and the new tax credits under the Affordable Care Act.  For North Carolina the numbers are staggering.  If the official GOP budget plan proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan is enacted, NC would lose a combined $83 billion in federal funding over the next 10 years, largely for health care services for children, people with disabilities, and the elderly.  But those aren’t the only groups affected.  The proposal also repeals the Affordable Care Act which contains tax credits to help middle class families purchase insurance, a cut of billions more in health funding for North Carolinians.

Also check out their new fact sheet on how seniors and people with disabilities rely on NC Medicaid for their long-term care health needs.  These are the people we are talking about when some policymakers blithely say “cut Medicaid.”

It’s strange but this group Families USA refuses to disclose their funding sources, even though they are a non-profit. When I called them , they say they only disclose to the IRS. Something very strange here ! I really doubt the validity of these numbers.

I’ve been to a number of Families USA conferences. Families has never been shy about revealing their funding source. Families holds a conference each year in D.C. Plus, the annual report reveals its funding source.
