Say it ain’t so

From the News & Observer:

The News & Observer will eliminate about 20 jobs in the latest cost-cutting effort by the Raleigh-based media company.

The staff reductions announced today will affect most areas of the company, including the newsroom. Some employees will have the opportunity to accept voluntary severance packages, but a few positions will be eliminated through layoffs.

When there are no watchdogs the people and organizations fighting for the voiceless always lose.

The radical right candidates blew into office saying they would focus on the economy and jobs. So when they got the power they ignored the economy and started eliminating jobs. The NCGA has set the example and others have no other choice but to do the same since the economy isn’t any better and jobs are eliminated as cost cutting efforts. Which is harder to hear? “Cost-cutting efforts” or “your fired”? Either way it isn’t pleasant to read, hear or say.

They can always outsource more “news” writing to the John Locke Foundation. Art Pope will be so pleased.
