The North Carolina Community College System is featured in an article on the important role that technical skills training [1] can play not only in getting people back to work but moving them to better quality jobs that provide increased wages and greater access to benefits.

The story of Mark McSweeney in Forsyth County is compelling.

It makes clear too that states must continue their investment in community colleges, not just to ensure that students can afford to attend but that campuses can offer the courses and provide the latest technology that is relevant to emerging industries. Unfortunately, policymakers put forward a budget that cuts community colleges by more than 10 percent thereby reducing their resources to meet the needs of industry and workers across the state. Revenue could have been raised instead and community colleges would have had greater support for their critical role in the state’s economic prosperity.
