Could budget cuts threaten the NC state tree?
For the past 15 years, the Clean Water Management Trust Fund has helped to conserve North Carolina’s natural areas by funding land conservation projects. Unfortunately, this year the General Assembly eliminated most of the Trust Fund’s money and included a provision in the budget that now prevents the Trust Fund from assisting with any land acquisition projects.
A new video by Speak NC suggests that budget decision could jeopardize hundreds of conservation projects, including one to protect the Longleaf Pines in the Uwharrie.
The video, released by the Together NC coalition, is part of a campaign documenting the positive impact of state programs and services on families and communities throughout North Carolina.
