If you want to know more about what makes tea partiers tick, check out the academic study by sociologists at UNC-Chapel Hill presented to the American Sociological Association this week.

What are the four primary characteristics most associated with those Americans sympathetic to the Tea Party? “Authoritarianism, ontological insecurity (fear of change), libertarianism and nativism.”

I’ve been trying to figure out this strange fascination if not an obsession exhibited by liberals and progressives with the Tea Party. I see everything from the almost crazy ranting of Rep.Maxine Waters to the daily painstaking analysis by Chris Matthews and the MSNBC crew. It’s almost comical to watch.Maybe they haven’t seen a party stand on it’s principles for so long !
