Hackney: Amendment places NC “unfavorably in the national spotlight”

The N.C. General Assembly adjourned Wednesday after approving just one constitutional amendment that would ban same sex marriage and civil unions.

House minority leader Rep. Joe Hackney called the three day session a  “waste of time” and a missed opportunity for state lawmakers to focus on the economy and job creation.

This weekend on News & Views, Rep. Hackney discusses this week’s session and his concerns about how the state will be portrayed leading up to the May 2012 vote on the marriage amendment.

Hackney, who supported a 1996 statute making same-sex marriage illegal, has since said that society has changed, and he would he “would not cast the same vote today.”

Legislators plan to return to Raleigh November 7th.
