In theory, some of those loopholes were understandable, but in practice they sometimes made it possible for millionaires to pay nothing, while a bus driver was paying ten percent of his salary, and that’s crazy. It was not President Obama pushing for his minimum tax on millionaires so they don’t pay taxes at a lower rate than the middle class. It was former President Ronald Reagan in 1985. Think Progress has the details.
House Speaker John Boehner reacted to Obama’s proposal by saying that “class warfare isn’t leadership.” Wonder what he thinks when he sees that the right-wing’s favorite president said exactly the same thing?
