North Carolina is not much of an oil state so most of us are not really familiar with all that goes into the process of forcing/pumping hydrocarbons to the surface from thousands of feet underground.
This article , however, provides a useful reminder of one key fact that a lot of us oil and gas novices have probably never thought much about: it takes a heck of a lot of water to make this industry work. This is especially true when it comes to “fracking” — an idea currently being advanced by conservative lawmakers in the North Carolina legislature.
Needless to say, drought conditions like those currently afflicting Texas (and those that we have experienced in North Carolina multiple times in recent years) will only make things much, much worse.
Once again, it seems, nature is telling us that the planet can only absorb so much exploitation.
